Values in Action: People
Sustainability Report 2020

At Herbruck’s we have a long history of demonstrating our commitment to our employees and the community, as People is one of four core pillars – People, Planet, Product and Prosperity — when it comes to operating a sustainable business, as outlined in our 2020 Sustainability Report.

As a fourth-generation family business, it’s important to show our employees and the communities we serve how essential they are for the Herbruck’s business. It’s the right thing to do.

At Herbruck’s we consider our employees and the communities we serve as part of our extended family. This family includes more than 700 employees across nine locations in three states.

Our benefits package is one of the most comprehensive in our industry, and we offer premium-free health care and matching Health Savings Account contributions. Employees and their dependents have convenient access to an array of preventative care services close to where they live and work.

In 2019, we opened the Herbruck’s Employee Wellness Clinic, which allows our employees and covered family members to access services like physicals, lab work, vaccinations, flu shots and chronic disease management. We also provide annual on-site flu vaccinations and offer prescription safety eyewear.

While on the job, Herbruck’s ensures employees are safe by continually improving our occupational health and safety management and performance. We’re proud that Herbruck’s has 20 Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-hour certified employees who champion safety at our various locations.

Our employees also have access to many opportunities for advancement, from entry level roles and internships to professional-level positions, and paths for advancement are clearly defined.

When our employees are more engaged, our birds are served better. That’s why we work hard to show our employees consistent appreciation through an Employee Assistance Program, as well as meals and gift cards and other incentives for work performance.

Our commitment to People goes beyond the inside of our facilities. We’re also dedicated to being a good neighbor.

We pride ourselves on a culture of humble generosity, meaning we encourage our team to be active in their communities through volunteering. Our employees and leadership are involved in many efforts in the communities we serve, including educating students on agricultural careers and working with a refugee and ethnic center in west and central Michigan, among others.

As a business, we donate more than 1 million eggs annually to our communities and provide support to many local organizations. In 2020, we donated 1.6 million eggs, boosting our efforts to provide nutritious food to people because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We’re so thankful to have such dedicated team members and communities as part of the Herbruck’s family, and as our business grows, we look forward to expanding those relationships for generations to come.
