Blue Springs Egg Farm celebrates ‘First Hen Day’
November 14, 2023
MERCERSBURG, Penn. – Blue Springs Egg Farm celebrated the anniversary of the arrival of the farm’s first egg-laying hens one year ago today.
On Nov. 14, 2022, 170,000 new winged residents arrived at Blue Springs, the $100 million sustainable cage-free egg-laying facility operated by Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch. The hens began producing high-quality, nutritious eggs, and today the Blue Springs flock has grown to 600,000 hens.
“It’s been amazing to see the growth of Blue Springs in the last year and be able to provide delicious, nutritious eggs to the northeastern United States,” said Derek Stoy, environmental, health and safety engineer at Blue Springs Egg Farm. “We’re proud to be involved in our community, to hire local workers and provide great economic benefits to our entire region.”
Since beginning production in 2022, Blue Springs Egg Farm has hired 150 local residents, who use the most innovative technology in the poultry industry to process eggs, provide excellent animal care and produce organic, nutrient-rich fertilizer on-site that is distributed to local farmers.
A core value of Herbruck’s is being a good neighbor. Staff at Blue Springs have become involved in various community events and groups, and the facility has donated 222,000 eggs to community organizations since last year.
