Blue Springs Egg Farm celebrates second anniversary of operations, growth

Mercersburg, Penn., August 13, 2024 – Blue Springs Egg Farm celebrated the growth of the cage-free, egg-laying facility in Mercersburg on Aug. 11.

Blue Springs, developed and operated by Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch, began operations in 2022. Since then, 1.2 million egg-laying hens have produced eggs, and 210 people have been hired for good-paying jobs supplying eggs to the northeast United States.

“Our family is grateful to continue to grow in Mercersburg and provide delicious, nutritious eggs to our customers in the northeastern United States,” said Cody Herbruck, associate VP of operations and fourth-generation family member. “We look forward to continuing our involvement in the community for generations to come.”

Operations at Blue Springs continue to grow, and Herbruck’s plans to construct five new hen houses and care for 1.5 million hens by the end of this year. Herbruck’s is committed to responsible growth of the facility, and as a fourth-generation family business is committed to the communities it serves and regularly contributes to the community through egg donations, sponsorships of community events and more.

Blue Springs Egg Farm is a more than $100 million economic development project for Franklin County and provides economic benefits for the entire region. The facility incorporates leading sustainability practices and uses the most innovative technology in the poultry industry to process eggs. It also processes hen litter into organic fertilizer on-site, which eliminates odors and provides nutrient-rich organic fertilizer for local farmers.

Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch is a fourth-generation family farm based in Saranac, Michigan. Herbruck’s is the largest egg producer in Michigan and has locations in Michigan, Indiana and Pennsylvania. For more information about Herbruck’s, visit: www.herbrucks.com.
