Herbruck’s celebrates ribbon cutting at Blue Springs Egg Farm
MERCERSBURG, Penn. – Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch leaders and local elected officials celebrated the completion of construction at Blue Springs Egg Farm, its newest, sustainable cage-free egg-laying facility in Mercersburg.
Herbruck’s family members and local state and elected officials were present at Blue Springs for the ribbon-cutting event and open house for a tour of the expansive 335-acre facility that has been under construction for the last two years.

This facility incorporates leading sustainability practices and uses the most innovative technology in the poultry industry.”
Operations at Blue Springs Egg Farm will begin this fall. The construction included eight poultry barns, an egg processing plant and a fertilizer pelletizing/storage building when completed. The site will use technology that processes hen litter into organic fertilizer, providing nutrient-rich organic fertilizer for farmers.
Herbruck’s utilized multiple local contractors to work on the project, including York-based Stewart & Tate, which served as the general contractor, as well as Galbraith/Pre-Design Inc. From Carlisle for construction of its pre-engineered metal poultry buildings and litter barn. Chambersburg-based David H. Martin Excavating led site preparation at Blue Springs.
Blue Springs Egg Farm will employ nearly 200 people when fully operational. Herbruck’s is committed to hiring local residents to fill positions, and anyone who wishes to apply can do so on the Herbruck’s website.
